Introducing Peter Mansfield, new General Manager SA & NT

Peter MansfieldPeter Mansfield is the newly appointed General Manager of Printing Industries SA & NT. This follows the retirement of Al Chizmesya after more than 20 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the industry.

Mr Mansfield brings considerable experience in industry associations. Over the past 10 years he has held key positions in various associations representing the newsagency, wine and food processing industries. He has been involved in advocacy, business development, policy, learning & skill development, project management, leadership development and industrial relations. He recently completed post-graduate studies for a Graduate Certificate in Management.

“I am looking forward to gaining an understanding of the multi-faceted printing industries," Mr Mansfield said. "My overall brief is to continue and expand the association’s focus on initiatives that improve the business outcomes for members in an increasingly competitive and technological globalised market.

“While assisting members to meet current opportunities and challenges is important, a focus on the future is also critical. We need to consider how this industry and the markets will look and operate in three to five years time and what we need to do now to be prepared and profitable in that future,” he said.

Mr Mansfield will be making every effort to meet industry people and other stakeholders and will welcome any opportunity for a phone conversation or a face to face visit. His contact details are:

Important work happening in the background

Your local Printing Industries Adelaide office team is always working on a range of matters with various government departments to represent and protect member interests. This is not always visible and not particularly glamorous, but very necessary!

We are currently involved in a review of the long service leave provisions and also a review of the code of practice for first aid in the workplace. We also represent the industry at regular meetings with the Leader of the Opposition.

We will update you progressively as matters develop. If you have an issue that you think affects our industry and our members that you believe we should look at, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Tell me something I don’t know – labour & skill shortage the worst since Dec 1994

The Printing Industry Trends report for the Sept 07 quarter reported that labour & skills availability in the industry was the worst since the December 1994 quarter. The expectation for the next quarter is for the situation to continue to be poor.

The Print 21 Magazine October 07 has a significant focus on providing practical advice on staffing, including

· How to keep the staff you’ve already got

· How to upskill existing staff

· Sone different angles on finding new people

Find your copy at the bottom of the in-tray, or where ever it’s floating around the office and see if any of the articles can assist towards improving your staffing situation. Or go to http://www.print21online.com.au/ to subscribe.
