South Australian printers call for level playing field on Tax and Workers’ Compensation
The State Office has submitted a paper to the SA Labor and Liberal parties recommending important reforms to state taxation and WorkCover to improve the competitiveness of the South Australian printing industry.
Australia is rapidly becoming a national printing market, due to improving electronic and web based technologies, where competition for business is no longer separated by regional or state boundaries. A considerable amount of print business for the South Australian industry is sourced from outside the state, creating an export market opportunity, but with interstate companies constantly seeking to gain work from within South Australia.
Due to this competitive national market, the level of South Australian generated taxation revenue and the cost of the workers’ compensation scheme relative to the other interstate jurisdictions are critical components in determining the competitiveness, and therefore the future prosperity, of the South Australian printing industry.
To ensure the ongoing competitiveness and growth of the South Australian printing industry, it is imperative that the costs for state generated taxes and duties and for the workers’ compensation scheme are reduced to be consistent with the lowest of other Australian interstate jurisdictions.
It is considered that the South Australian government responsibility is to provide a level playing field for business in relation to state generated charges compared to other Australian states and territories. This will provide the opportunity for the printing industry to compete for business on merit and ability. Please take the time to read our report. Download the report here.
