Protection of injured workers Currently employers covered by State awards may not dismiss an employee within 6 months of that employee going on workers compensation. (Employers under Federal awards may not dismiss within 3 months of the employee going on workers compensation). The Queensland Industrial Relations Act has been amended to prevent a dismissal in these circumstances for a period of 12 months. Therefore, if an employee is on an extended period of workers compensation you may not even consider dismissal until a full 12 months have elapsed. Contact Jette Oliver for more details

The Certificate III in Printing & Graphic Arts (Mail House) will be delivered totally on-site by the Queensland School of Printing & Graphic Arts meaning staff will be able to work towards a nationally-recognised qualification without having to be absent from the workplace. The costs of training will be met by the Queensland Government's Industry Partnerships program and by Federal Government incentives. Contact David Hoban for more details

  Accelerated Apprenticeship for Printing Machinists

Printing Industries, in association with the Queensland School of Printing & Graphic Arts, Creative Industries Skills Council and the Queensland Government Department of Employment & Training, have devised and implemented a pilot program that will allow print machining apprentices to complete their apprenticeships in as little as 2.5 years. The pilot program commences in late January 2006 and aims to make print machining a more attractive option for potential apprentices and to help employers overcome skills shortages. For more information members can peruse the Employer Declaration or contact David Hoban for more details.
