PrintNet | Queensland PICA 2011 Results

More than 300 guests wandered through the entry display area while sipping pre dinner drinks before entering the ballroom to begin another gala night of food, entertainment and awards presentations.

Master of Ceremonies for the night was Bruce Irwin, a well known personality in our industry. Printing Industries National President Susan Heaney extended a warm welcome to industry members and guests with a positive message about the Industry in what proved to be a fitting prelude to a very successful and enjoyable evening.

The first of the award of the evening - the Environmental Management Award - went to Screen Offset Printing and was presented by Jennie Trinder from Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Resource Management and was accepted by David Rowe of the company.

The Printing Industries’/Southbank Institute of Technology Apprentice of the Year Award 2011 was awarded to Jacob Allen from Tennyson Group. Much sought after and acclaimed Category 25 for ‘An entry produced by an Apprentice’ was won by William Baptiste from GEON Australia.

This year’s Judges’ Special Commendation Award was won by Craft Inprint Brisbane for their entry for Meriton and was presented by Garry Gray from Fuji Xerox (Platinum Sponsor) to Steve Cavendish from the company.

The Judges’ Choice Award was won by Platypus Graphics for their Lutheran College entry and was presented by Ross Martin from Media Super (Platinum Sponsor) to Paul Drury from the company.

In the course of the evening guests were entertained by the Swingin’ Martinis, a duo who sang and joked their way through a very entertaining 30 minutes. Audience participation proved a hilarious segment with some dinner guests looking particularly good on stage in a rendition of ‘YMCA’ by the Village People.

Queensland’s night of nights finishes another successful year for the nations PICAs.

Queensland’s PICA Presentation Dinner 2011 was held on Saturday 19th November at the Hilton Hotel - Brisbane. It was a night full of laughter and celebration that was a fitting conclusion to what has been a tough year for the Industry in Queensland.
